Gradings

Your progress is monitored by the instructor during every class. However, progress can only be sincerely tested by the challenge of an exam by the club's grading officer.

The club uses a belt system to indicate grading level.

Gradings are optional and the decision to grade is entirely yours. If you do decide to grade then there is a mimum number of classes during the three month or six month period between gradings.

Three months between gradings ( A minimum of 10 classes during the 3 month period prior to grading).

Beginner ....................... White
 9th Kyu ......................... Red
 8th Kyu ......................... Yellow
 7th Kyu ......................... Orange
 6th Kyu ......................... Green

Three months between gradings ( A minimum of 12 classes during the 3 month period prior to grading).

 5th Kyu ......................... Blue
 4th Kyu ......................... Purple

Six months between gradings ( A minimum of 22 classes during the 6 month period prior to grading).

 3rd Kyu ......................... Brown
 2nd Kyu ........................ Brown
 1st Kyu ......................... Brown & White

Six months (16+) or 12 months (16-) between gradings ( A minimum of 88 classes during the period prior to the grading).

1st Dan ........................ Black

Two years between gradings (A minimum of 176 classes during the two year period prior to grading)

 2nd Dan ...................... Black (18 & Over Only)

Three years between gradings (A minimum of 264 classes during the three year period prior to grading)

 3rd Dan ....................... Black (21 & Over Only)
